Ajinkya Rahane’s wife Radhika shared on Instagram that he decided not to undergo a scan for his finger injury during the World Test Championship against Australia. The decision was made to prioritize his mental well-being and maintain his focus on batting. Radhika admires his selflessness and determination, applauds his unwavering resilience and commitment. She expressed her endless pride in his team spirit and referred to him as her resilient partner.
On the second day of the match, Rahane was hit on his right index finger by a bouncer from Pat Cummins. He immediately felt pain and got treatment from the physiotherapist. Despite this, the 35-year-old batsman scored a brilliant 89 on his Test debut after 18 months. Rahane hoped that the finger injury would not hamper his batting in the second innings.
Ajinkya Rahane’s wife Radhika wrote on Instagram, “Despite your swollen finger, you refused scans to protect your mindset and focused on batting, demonstrating incredible selflessness and determination. Unwavering resilience and commitment.” With that, you made your way to the crease.” Is inspiring us all. I am always proud of your unwavering team spirit, my resilient partner. Love you endlessly!”
On the finger injury, Rahane said, “Don’t think it will affect (my) batting (in India’s second innings). Happy with the way I batted. It was good today. We want to get 320-330.” We were wanting but overall we had a good day. Bowling wise, we bowled well. Everyone hit fours.
Commenting on the dismissal of Cameron Green’s catch, Rahane commented, “It was a really good catch. We all know he’s a really good fielder. It’s got a big reach.” Admitting that Australia were a little ahead in the game, he said, “For us, it is important to be in the moment, playing session by session. The first one hour tomorrow will be crucial. We know funny things can happen. Jadeja really Bowled well. Footprints helped him against left-handers. Still looks like the wicket will help the fast bowlers.”
Rahane’s impressive innings saw him facing 129 balls and hitting 11 fours and a six. He shared a 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Shardul Thakur (51 off 109 balls) that kept India in the game. Despite this, Australia managed to take a huge 173-run lead in the first innings. At stumps, Australia were 123 for four in 44 overs in their second innings, extending their lead to 296 runs.
At the end of the third day’s play, Rahane spoke to the broadcaster and said he did not believe the injury would affect his batting in India’s second innings. He expressed his satisfaction with his performance, acknowledged a good day overall and praised the team’s bowling efforts. Reflecting on his dismissal due to the remarkable catch of Cameron Green, Rahane acknowledged Green’s exceptional fielding skills. He openly admitted that Australia had the advantage in the game.
Rahane stressed on the importance of focusing on the present and taking it session by session. He recognized the potential for unexpected turnarounds and credited the excellent bowling of Ravindra Jadeja, who benefited from his footmark against left-handed batsmen. Rahane also believed that the pitch would continue to help the fast bowlers.
