Doda/Jammu: A day after a 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit Doda district of the Union Territory, four fresh tremors were felt in the Jammu region on Wednesday, triggering panic among the residents. Officials said there was no report of any loss of life or property so far.
An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was recorded in Kishtwar at 8.29 am. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), its epicenter was at a depth of five kilometres. Earlier, a tremor of 3.5 magnitude was recorded at 7.56 am in Doda and the epicenter was at a depth of 10 km, showed the NCS data.
Two more earthquakes were also recorded in the early hours of the day. According to the data, at 2.20 am, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 at a depth of 10 km was recorded in Doda district. According to the NCS, the second earthquake, which had a magnitude of 2.8, occurred 74 km east of Katra in Reasi district at 2.43 am. Its epicenter was at a depth of five kilometers.
Four fresh earthquakes occurred a day after a high-intensity earthquake struck Doda district. Tuesday’s earthquake damaged several buildings in the two hilly districts of Doda and Kishtwar. Five people, including two school children, sustained injuries, while schools were closed by the administration as a precautionary measure.
The earthquake was widely felt in the Jammu and Kashmir region and neighboring states. According to NCS, the analysis of last five years shows that minor earthquakes are the normal seismic activity in the vicinity of Doda area.
