Much the same way Apple lets its users “lease” iPhones iphone upgrade program, customers can pay off their iPad Pro or Apple Watch Ultra over a long period of time. Apple gives iPhone customers 24 months, though, so the Upgrade Plus extra year stretches things out.
After the three-year period expires, customers have the option of remaining in the program and upgrading to the new model, or returning the device and forfeiting the Upgrade Plus. Alternatively, customers who wish to own the device can make the final payment in the 37th month.
When you do the math, that means paying $17.32 every month for three years for the $799 Apple Watch Ultra or the base 11-inch iPad Pro model. If you choose to pay off the device, you will need to pay $175.78 towards the final payment due in the 37th month. If you choose to upgrade to it, however, Best Buy will cover the final payment for you. If you return the device and leave the program, Best Buy will also pay the balance of the purchase, meaning you could potentially save $175.78.
However, there’s a catch: This number assumes you qualify for the zero percent APR offer. If you don’t, you could end up paying a maximum interest of 29.99 percent, depending on your creditworthiness. Furthermore, the program will only cover the Wi-Fi-enabled version of the iPad Pro.
Meanwhile, you’ll be able to get 24 months of AppleCare Plus for free if you’re a paying Best Buy TotalTech member who buys a tablet or rugged smartwatch through Upgrade Plus. However, you must remain an active Totaltech member during that time period. Non-TotalTech members won’t get AppleCare Plus for free, but they can finance the plan with other Apple accessories through Upgrade Plus.
Launched in collaboration with Apple last October, Upgrade Plus initially only financed Macs for their first few months. It will continue to finance the latest models of the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Studio and Mac mini.
