The announcement of Team India’s Test and ODI squads for the upcoming West Indies tour in July brought a mix of new faces and familiarity. Yashasvi Jaiswal, a promising talent, got his maiden Test call-up while Cheteshwar Pujara, an experienced batsman, was dropped following his poor performance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. However, Sanju Samson’s return to the ODI squad has really sparked excitement among the fans, causing a stir on Twitter.

Samson’s last ODI match was during the tour of New Zealand last year. In terms of the overall squad, veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane retained his place and dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya was appointed vice-captain, adding more depth to the limited-overs lineup.
The upcoming series promises to be a month-long extravaganza which will include eight matches. The action will begin with a two-match Test series, with the opening match at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica from July 12 to 16. The second Test will be held from June 20 to June 24 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Additionally, India will also compete in five T20Is, and the squad for this leg of the tour will be announced at a later date.
After the Test series, there will be a gap of two days before the exciting three-match ODI series between India and West Indies. This particular tournament assumes vital importance as it will act as a litmus test for the Indian team in the field of white-ball cricket, providing valuable insights ahead of the much-anticipated ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year.
The first ODI will take place on July 27 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, followed by the second on July 29 at the same venue. The series will conclude with a thrilling encounter on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. After this, both the teams will face-off in a five-match T20I series, further intensifying the cricketing rivalry between them.
