Nawazuddin Siddiqui ‘Anurag Kashyap scolded me’ for behaving like Al Pacino on the sets of Gangs Of Wasseypur (Exclusive)

Nawazuddin Siddiqui spent a lot of time in the Hindi film industry before getting his big break in Anurag Kashyap’s film gangs of wasseypur In 2012 he played the role of Faisal Khan and soon became synonymous with it. Since then the actor has ventured into several genres, most recently he was seen in the romantic-comedy Tiku Weds Sheru Along with newcomer Avneet Kaur.

Nawazuddin is known to live and bring alive his character as fans appreciate the authenticity he brings to it. But it doesn’t come naturally and sometimes, the character needs to literally ‘live’ it. In an exclusive interview with Mashable India, Nawazuddin Siddiqui recalls the time when he was scolded by director Anurag Kashyap for behaving like ‘Al Pacino’.

The 49-year-old actor talked about the difference between imagining the character and playing it in real life. Talking about the same, he recalled an incident during his training days when he used to sleep as ‘Robert De Niro or Al Pacino’.

”I was in that phase for 3-4 months. My teachers would advise me not to do this. first day of shooting gangs of wasseypur, I went pura al Pacino banque (I went like Al Pacino). He recalled, “I also spoke like him.” While it must have been the actor’s attempt to project himself as Faizal Khan, it was not possible for the Gangs of Wasseypur director.

“Anurag (Kashyap) scolded me a lot in the night. Nawazuddin recalled, “He told me, ‘You’re behaving too much like Al Pacino. ‘” So I took off the whole mask overnight and I couldn’t sleep the whole night. When I went there the next morning, I went completely Nawaz,” he revealed.

The veteran actor further revealed that he realized that he didn’t want to ‘play authority’ and just wanted to be himself. “You don’t get powers just by playing it. For example, Anurag used to say, “There are 25 people standing behind you so you don’t need to play powers. Just be casual and you look dangerous,” concluded Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
