Delhi Metro allows carrying two sealed bottles of liquor and internet is tripping

Responding to a passenger’s (now deleted tweet), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that 2 sealed bottles of liquor are allowed. According to ANI, the DMRC has issued an official statement allowing this as per the provisions of the Airport Express Line. A committee comprising CISF and DMRC officials has reviewed the order. Earlier, liquor was prohibited on routes other than the Airport Express Line. According to DMRC, consumption of alcohol is not allowed inside the metro premises. Passengers are asked to maintain proper etiquette during Metro travel. Passengers are not allowed to travel under the influence of alcohol or any other illegal substance. Appropriate action will be taken against the violators.

Some users were naturally perplexed by the DMRC’s policy which earlier prohibited the carrying of alcohol. Several users reiterated DMRC’s earlier tweet and sought further clarification.

Strange!! Consuming alcoholic beverages is generally prohibited by the CISF. Although I believe it is ok, as metros do not have a luggage compartment like on flights and there is no way to be sure that the person carrying it will not do anything inappropriate. Glass bottles themselves are a security risk.
