After Anil Ambani, wife Tina Ambani appears before ED in connection with alleged FEMA violations

Tina Ambani, wife of Reliance ADA Group Chairman Anil Ambani, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 4, 2023. Earlier, on Monday, Anil Ambani deposed before the ED in a FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999) violation case. Anil Ambani had recorded his statement at the Mumbai office of the agency. Tina Ambani was also asked to appear before the ED on Monday, but she sought exemption. However, the ED issued fresh summons to the billionaire’s wife. The details of the present case have not yet been made public by the ED. This investigation may be related to foreign investment of Anil Ambani family and alleged violation of FEMA.

Earlier in 2020, Anil Ambani was probed by the ED along with Rana Kapoor and others in a money laundering case related to the Yes Bank loan. The central agency had alleged that Ambani’s company was the beneficiary of Yes Bank’s loans and is the biggest non-performing asset of the bank.

On 8 August 2022, the IT department had given notice to Anil Ambani on alleged tax evasion of Rs 420 crore. Mr Ambani reportedly has undisclosed funds of over Rs 814 crore in two Swiss bank accounts. Due to this, they can be prosecuted under the Black Money Tax Imposition Act. Anil Ambani was accused of willful tax evasion and willful non-disclosure of foreign accounts and assets. However, on April 5, 2023, the Bombay High Court granted an interim stay on the show case and fine imposed on Anil Ambani by the IT department.

The matriarch of the family Kokilaben Ambani lives with the Anil-Tina Ambani family in their 17-storey house in Pali Hills. Mukesh Ambani’s family along with the Anil Ambani family lived in this house until they moved to Antilia.
