Instagram’s new Threads app, its Twitter competitor, isn’t due to launch until July 6, but the web interface is live for all to see right now. It provides an early look at what to expect from the full Threads app that will launch tomorrow on iOS and possibly Android as well.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg created his first thread (is that what we call them?!) using the app, and many other brands and creators have been given early access — including Netflix, Gary VAnd Instagram obviously.
The web interface for viewing threads is pretty basic right now, with options to like, comment, repost and share – all of which prompt you to download the mobile app for the time being. If you’re in an unsupported country, such as the EU market, you’ll only be able to see Threads for now. Just like Twitter, you can see an account’s main posts in one section and the entire reply history in another.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram Already have almost 2,500 followers And Zuckerberg has less than 2,000, so it’s safe to say that early Threads access has only been granted to a few thousand testers so far. Alessandro Palluzzi discovers some of the brands and creators who got early access.
The Fediverse integration won’t be immediately available at Threads’ launch, but it’s clear Instagram is looking to add it soon. Profile includes an Instagram username and link threads.net Label containing the following details:
Soon, you’ll be able to follow and interact with people on other fediverse platforms like Mastodon. They can also find people on Threads by using their full username, such as @zuck@threads.net.
