New Delhi: The Manipur government on Wednesday extended the ban on internet services in the state till July 10, 2023. An order issued by the Manipur Home Department said steps are being taken to prevent imminent danger of loss of life, public damage. private property, and widespread disturbance of the public tranquillity.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, on being satisfied that the situation is likely to create serious disturbance in the peaceful co-existence and maintenance of public order “It is hereby ordered to further suspend/suspend mobile data services, internet/data services including broadband,” an official notification said.
It further added, “Internet/Data services through Reliance Jio Fiber, Airtel Extreme Black, BSNL FTTH, VPN etc. and VSATS of BharatNet Phase-II in the territorial jurisdiction of the State of Manipur.”

As per the official notification, this order will be applicable with immediate effect till 3:00 PM on July 10 and will remain in force for the next five days.
It further states that there is apprehension that some anti-social elements may use social media extensively for dissemination of images, hate speech and hate video messages to incite public sentiments, which in Manipur is prohibited by law and order. The condition of the system can be seriously affected.
Earlier on Wednesday, schools under the Education Department (Schools), Government of Manipur, reopened for classes 1-8 and conducted their normal classes after remaining closed for over two months due to caste violence that broke out in the hill state on May 3. Started again.
