The burning desire to excel was evident when England fast bowler Mark Wood clocked 152 kmph (94.6 mph) during the opening day of the third Ashes Test at Headingley in Leeds. This was Wood’s first appearance in the series, as he expertly swung the ball between Usman Khawaja’s bat and pad, eventually breaking his leg stump.
Wood’s intention was clear from the start. In the 13th over of the innings, he started at a blistering 93 mph, setting the tone for what was to come. In the next four balls, he clocked speeds of 93, 92, 93 and 91 mph in a row, which increased the pressure on the Australian batsmen. And then, on the final delivery of the over, Wood thundered out at a lightning-fast 94.6 mph, delivering the decisive blow.
It was sheer pace and accuracy from Wood as the ball hit Khawaja’s leg-stump, leaving the batsman stunned. The delivery was full and straight, with a hint of in-swing. Khawaja, attempting an on-drive, failed to connect with the ball, resulting in a slight inside edge that flew past leg stump. The crowd erupted in a collective roar in recognition of Wood’s superb delivery.
It is full and straight and very quick for Usman Khawaja :whirlwind:
