The fierce Ashes rivalry between the Australian and English cricket teams has reached new heights, with the Prime Ministers of the two countries having a mild spat. After the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the Lord’s Test, the two leaders engaged in a playful exchange on social media. However, they decided to take it a step further when they met in person.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared a video in which he and his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak can be seen teasing each other about the ongoing Ashes series. Albanese carried a piece of paper with “2-1” written on it, indicating Australia’s lead after the first three Tests. In response, Sunak drew a picture of England’s victory in the Leeds Test, prompting Albanese to display a picture of the infamous Bairstow dismissal.

Amidst laughter, the UK PM joked, “I’m sorry, I didn’t bring my sandpaper with me,” alluding to ball-tampering scandals involving the Australian team in the past. However, a spokesman for the UK PM revealed that Sunak was not happy with the way Australia secured their victory in the second Test.

Although England managed to stage a comeback in the third Test, they still needed to win the remaining two matches to clinch the series. Meanwhile, Australia remains the favourite. The tussle between the prime ministers adds another layer of excitement to an already intense Ashes rivalry, highlighting the passion and camaraderie shared between the two nations on and off the field.
