More details have emerged on the demands of the striking actors.
The Screen Actors Guild went on strike after major studios refused to meet demands including a two percent cut in streaming revenue and a 230 percent increase in overseas streaming residuals. Diversity,
on studios’ use of generative AI and digital likenesses of actors, Diversity writes:
The union wants an artist to consent to any use of their performance to train an AI system. AMPTP will accept that AI is used to transform or recreate a likeness of that artist for training. But according to Crabtree-Ireland, AMPTP would give studios carte blanche to create “synthetic” artists or train AI systems for other purposes.
SAG-AFTRA also wants studios to get union consent on personal use of AI, which the studios have refused to give. There is also a dispute regarding background actors.
