As the day progressed, all eyes were also on Virat Kohli, who was inching closer to a landmark century in his 500th international match. West Indies put up a spirited resistance to restrict India to 288 for four at stumps on the first day of the Test. Sharma’s stupendous opening partnership of 139 with Jaiswal provided a strong platform for India, but the West Indies slowed down the scoring rate by taking four crucial wickets in the afternoon session.

However, Kohli stayed at the crease with his characteristic determination and skill and ended the day unbeaten on 87 off 161 balls. In the final session, Kohli, along with Ravindra Jadeja (36 off 84 balls), displayed a masterful strokeplay to put India in a strong position without losing a wicket. The pair scored an impressive 106 runs in 33.2 overs.
As the first day came to an end, Kohli’s hundred would undoubtedly be the highlight of the second day. The Indian captain will be keen to get closer to the milestone, his first overseas Test hundred since December 2018. With 84 overs bowled on the opening day, the stage is set for an exciting continuation of the Test match. As fans eagerly await the action, Sharma and Kohli’s outstanding performances serve as testimony to their talent and prowess on the cricket field.
