Add alt text to an image in a Google Workspace project getting too easy Accessibility improvements were included after an update. Until recently, adding alternative text to images was hidden behind a right-click menu. Now, the option will appear in the “Image Options” sidebar – not only that, but the option now comes with an explanation for the feature, telling users what the alt text is intended for.
Alt text is used in the media and beyond to tell people who have difficulty seeing what an image is showing, giving them access to important contextual information that viewers may take for granted. But where alt text is available in software, it is sometimes not interpreted, and when people who can see and read their screen clearly are adding images to their docs, they may not think to add alt text, so keeping it more visible can help.
Your personal Google Workspace account might not have the feature yet — Google says it will take “no more than 15 business days” to roll it out to Workspace customers.
