Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for a second term, along with State Congress President DK Shivakumar as Deputy Chief Minister and eight MLAs as Ministers this afternoon. The swearing-in ceremony took place just a week after the party’s resounding victory in the assembly elections in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were in Delhi till late Friday night to discuss the cabinet composition with the party high command. Siddaramaiah, who is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, had earlier written to the Governor of Karnataka requesting eight legislators to be sworn in as cabinet ministers.
The eight ministers in Siddaramaiah’s cabinet are G Parameshwara (SC), KH Muniyappa (SC), KJ George (Minority-Christian), MB Patil (Lingayat), Satish Jarkiholi (ST-Valmiki), Priyank Kharge (SC) and AICC President M. ) Are. Mallikarjun Kharge’s son), Ramalinga Reddy (Reddy), and BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan (minority-Muslim).
Several leaders of opposition parties and senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Kamal Nath were present on the occasion. Other prominent leaders present on the occasion included Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Himachal Pradesh Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Rajasthan Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot and Jammu and Kashmir. In the 224-seat Karnataka Assembly, the Congress has won 135 seats, while the BJP has won only 66 seats.
