Be prepared to pay a little more to watch live-streamers without being constantly interrupted by commercials. Twitch’s ad-free Turbo subscription plan is raising its price, jumping from $9 to $12 a month in the US. Twitch hasn’t offered any feature changes or add-ons with this price increase. The monthly cost of Turbo is increasing worldwide, price revised in your country.
Current Turbo customers were notified about the price change via email sent on Thursday, but there is some good news for longtime users. Some countries have a new lower monthly price, though you’ll need to cancel and re-subscribe. Plus, current users get a grace period of three months until they are forced to choose the new price. New customers do not get any such grace period.
This substantial increase comes after Amazon-owned Twitch got a new CEO and laid off nearly 400 employees as part of its parent company. While no new features were announced alongside the price increase, Twitch announced that updates are on the way to “Turbo to make it even better and more relevant.” See “In the coming months” for more information.
Turbo’s primary hook is an ad-free experience across the entire Twitch platform, but it also offers some small perks, such as more emoji, custom chat username colors, and increased broadcast storage. The updated pricing model starts from today.
