Mumbai Indians (MI) found a unique way of disciplining their young batsman Nehal Wadhera by making him wear a batting pad at the Mumbai airport. The incident took place after the team arrived late for the batsmen’s meeting at Wadhera’s hotel. A video of the incident went viral, in which Wadhera is shown feeling embarrassed and requesting the cameraman not to shoot. MI shared the video on their official Twitter account, stating that Wadhera expressed his regret for his lateness for the meeting and described his punishment as “wearing the day”.
Nehal Wadhera is participating in his first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for Mumbai Indians in the 16th edition. He made his IPL debut on 2 April against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In his debut match, Wadhera faced 13 balls and scored 21 runs. In the ongoing IPL 2023 season so far, he has played a total of 10 matches, scoring 198 runs at a strike rate of 151.15. Wadhera has also scored two half-centuries this season. During the IPL 2023 auction, the Mumbai franchise bought the 22-year-old cricketer for Rs 20 lakh.
