In another anti-militancy operation, the police on Monday claimed to have recovered two improvised explosive devices from Vodhpura area of North Kashmir’s Handwara. In a handout, the police said that the Army in a joint operation with the Handwara Police recovered two IEDs from Vodhpura Ridge near NH 701 on the morning of 17 July 2023. Based on information from a reliable source, the Indian Army and Handwara Police launched a quick and well-attended operation. Coordinated Search and Destroy Operation (SADO) was launched in Vodhpura forest in the early hours today.
The spokesperson further said that the operation resulted in the recovery of two sophisticated IEDs of approximately 5 and 7 kg, which were hidden in the jungle area. The team immediately cordoned off the area with adequate security measures. The IED was positively identified by the highly trained Explosive Detection Team of the Indian Army equipped with explosive detectors and army dogs, he said.
Further, the bomb disposal team conducted a controlled explosion of the IED, making them safe. An intensive search operation was resumed by the Indian Army and Handwara Police personnel in the general area of Vodhpura forest in search of any more IEDs or hidden terrorists. A major incident was averted in the area due to the prompt action of the joint team of security forces, the statement said.
It is pertinent to mention that Manoj Sinha as the Lieutenant Governor of J&K has adopted a policy of “zero tolerance against terrorism” and strict action is taken against whoever is found involved in such malicious activities.
