This is a trigger warning for all you diabetics out there. For all the barfi lovers out there, welcome Volodymyr Zelensky, the Premier of Ukraine, to the club. Britain’s premier Rishi Sunak brought his mother’s Indian sweets to his Ukrainian counterpart during his recent visit to war-torn Ukraine. Prime Minister Sunak shared the experience in his recent Instagram post. Rishi Sunak had visited Ukraine last month. It was his second visit since 2022 when he met President Zelensky and extended Britain’s solidarity with the Ukrainian government amid Putin’s continued pursuit of aggression.
However, the barfi was not actually meant for the Ukrainian president. Rishi Sunak had earlier arrived unannounced at his mother’s pharmacy in Southampton, but could not meet her. His mother Usha Sunak made barfi for Rishi. Rishi mentioned in the IG post that he had given sweets during the football match. The very next Monday there was a diplomatic meeting with Zelensky. During his conversion, the Prime Minister of Ukraine said that he was a little hungry. Sunak immediately gave the remaining barfi to him.
There is no mention of how he reacted to Indian sweets like fudge. However, Rishi’s mother was thrilled.
