Delhi received the highest rainfall in more than 40 years in the month of July amid an extreme monsoon season. The national capital witnessed its first significant rain of the season on Saturday and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a “yellow alert” for Sunday. The city received 153 mm of rain in 24 hours, the third highest in a July day since 1958 and the highest since 1982.
Due to heavy rains, Delhiites witnessed water-logging in several areas including Mandi House, Rafi Marg, Feroz Shah Road and Lodhi Estate. Apart from this, a similar situation was observed in the surrounding areas of Gurugram as well. According to Gurugram Traffic Police, water-logging has been observed at Himgiri Chowk, Aggarwal Dharamshala Chowk, Sheetla Mata Mandir Road, Kanhai Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Khandsa and Rajeev Chowk adjacent to Sector-10A.

In the last two days, incessant rain has been observed over northwest India, with “heavy to very heavy” rainfall at many places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab.
The IMD reports that western disturbances and monsoon winds are causing intense rain over northwest India, including Delhi, which has already received its first “very heavy” rain of the year.
According to the director of the Regional Meteorological Center in Delhi, there may be heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the next two days. IMD issued orange alert for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
