Shimla: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert and predicted heavy rain in eight districts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, an official said. IMD Deputy Director Bui Lal said on Saturday that the IMD has issued an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh for heavy rainfall in several districts of the region during the next 24 hours. The Deputy Director of IMD also informed that many areas of Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains in the last 24 hours, with Sirmaur district receiving 195 mm of rain.
Bui Lal said, “Heavy rainfall occurred in many areas of Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours, with Sirmaur district receiving 195 mm of rain. The IMD has issued an orange alert with the possibility of heavy rains in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Bilaspur districts in the next 24 hours.”
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Kullu said on Saturday that a relief amount of Rs five crore has been provided to the people affected by the floods in the district.
Kullu DCP Ashutosh Garg said, “People affected by the heavy rains in Kullu district are being provided relief by the government. People whose houses and shops as well as sources of income have been affected, are being given relief. So far 1,700 families have been affected by the floods. Most of the families have been provided relief amounting to Rs five crore.”

Garg further said, ‘Even now the employees of the Revenue Department are in the field and are distributing the relief amount.’ In particular, heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have caused massive financial and infrastructural losses. The incessant rains caused several landslides and flash floods.
Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday said that the state has faced the worst rain and flood disasters in the last 75 years. He also said that the state could face a loss of up to Rs 8,000 crore due to the damage caused by the rains. The Chief Minister said that immediate financial relief is needed from the Central Government.
Speaking to the media, the chief minister said, “The central team has visited the state. We have demanded Rs 315 crore from the central government pending disaster fund for 2022-23. The loss is estimated at Rs 8,000 crore. We are trying to restore road, electricity and water supply in the area.”
The Chief Minister said that in the event of this disaster, Himachal needs immediate relief from the Central Government. On the alert of continuous heavy rains, he said that the teams are ready and the priority is to save the lives of the people.
