Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are up against former five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Eliminator match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. It is a ‘do or die’ contest for both the sides as the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament, while the winner will advance to Qualifier 2 and take on Gujarat Titans (GT), who lost Qualifier 1 to Chennai Super. Kings (CSK) on Tuesday night.
The LSG will once again be led by all-rounder Krunal Pandya while regular skipper KL Rahul is ruled out due to injury. Also no injury concerns for LSG, who made it to the playoffs on debut in IPL 2022.
Rohit Sharma’s MI are also back in the playoffs after finishing last in the 2022 season. MI have been sorely missed by pacer Jasprit Bumrah and have missed the services of Jofra Archer for most of the season. To compensate for their weak bowling line-up, Mumbai’s batting has been excellent and has chased down scores of more than 200 four times.
Suryakumar Yadav is in top form, while all-rounder Cameron Green is going into this match on the back of his maiden IPL century. It remains to be seen whether Arjun Tendulkar will get a chance to play in his maiden IPL playoff to strengthen his bowling attack.
