For years live-in relationship was a western concept that was looked down upon in India until Bollywood romanticized it, making it acceptable to the new generation. In the last decade, the idea became so popular that concerns emerged about the laws governing such relationships. As per reports, there is no legal bar for unmarried couples to jointly rent or buy property.

Since there is no law prohibiting this, unmarried couples can live together, buy or rent a house and become joint owners. The last few years have also seen legal cases where the court held that there is no legal bar for unmarried couples to rent or buy property jointly. Even if there is no law written, the law cannot stop it. But the recent cases have created a new fear regarding the same.

Live in relationship is ending in continuous murders…
— Twi (@5K_meenu) April 9, 2023
Earlier in 2023, several cases had grabbed headlines where a woman victim of a live-in relationship was killed by her partner. Be it Shraddha Walker’s case in Delhi or Nalasopara in Maharashtra, the gruesome details of the cases have gone viral. Now another case has come to light from Mumbai that a man killed his live-in partner and like other cases, her body was cut into pieces. The more cases that hit the headlines, the more such cases appear online.
People are once again against the concept of live in relationship and how it is dangerous and endangers the safety of women. One person claimed that live-ins should be banned in India, while another wondered why the rates are so high in only such relationships.
the fridge saga continues
This time #Sahil Gehlot GF took her life #Nikki Yadav And kept it in the fridge of his dhaba and married another girl
There is something wrong in hyping her live in relationship in India which is causing so many murders. Gehlot says pic.twitter.com/2hM0Hb0jEh— Swathi Bellam (@BellamSwathi) February 15, 2023

On the other hand, a community on Twitter is also telling the mindset of those who consider live-in relationships to be bad instead of men and the murder of these women. Some have pointed out how many murders, domestic violence and harassment happen among married women and no one has the numbers.
In India, two murders of live-in partners come to light and live-in relationships are termed as ‘dangerous’. 20 women die daily for dowry harassment but marriage is as sacred as ever.

Indians are objecting to live-in relationships due to two recent murders and safety of women.
But they never objected to the concept of ‘marriage’ while thousands of women were burnt alive and thrashed by their husbands.Vichitra Naari (@VichitraNaari) February 17, 2023
In any case, be it live in relationship, love marriage or arranged marriage, the safety of women is still a matter of concern at large. However, we have not seen the politicians or the government or the Supreme Court applying any drastic means to help. At the end of the day, women are left to fend for themselves and fend for themselves.
But the truth is that even if they defend themselves in any capacity, they will be held accountable and will be questioned and blamed. leaving us all helpless in the end.
Couple of tragic incidents happened in live-in relationship and our uncle-like society is raising voice against ‘these kind of things’.
