Jay Johnson arrested
Following the US Capitol riots in January 2021, the FBI released photographs of Jay Johnson on Twitter in March 2021 and sought the public’s help in identifying him and others suspected of assaulting police officers. Court records show that an attorney representing Johnson contacted prosecutors four days later and acknowledged that the man in the photos was him. Over a thousand people have been charged with involvement in the riot and federal law enforcement is still making these arrests.
The FBI agent’s affidavit claimed that Johnson “participated with other rioters in a group attack on the officers” and guarded the entrance to the tunnel. The FBI alleged that Jay Johnson encouraged others to join him and wash the chemical out of the rioters’ eyes. The FBI stated, “The FBI has interviewed three current or former associates of Johnson, all of whom have identified Johnson as the individual in the above photographs from 247-AFO.”
