Big relief to Prithvi Shaw, Mumbai Police tells court that Sapna Gill’s molestation allegation against the cricketer is false

Mumbai: Social media influencer Sapna Gill’s allegation that Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw molested her at a pub in suburban Andheri in Mumbai is “false and baseless”, police told a Mumbai court on Monday. The investigating officer appeared before the magistrate hearing the case on Monday and submitted the report of the case.

After the police submitted the report, Gill’s lawyer Ali Kashif Khan requested the court to allow him to produce the video footage of the alleged brawl, which was recorded by Gill’s friend on his phone, which went viral in the media. . They also demanded the CCTV footage of the incident that took place outside the pub.

The court asked the police to submit the footage of the entire incident and adjourned the matter till June 28. Gill had filed a complaint before a magistrate court in Andheri, seeking registration of an FIR under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent). Sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) against Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav for attacking her with a bat in February ).

Before moving the court, Gill had approached the airport police station in Andheri to file a molestation case against the cricketer and his friend. The police told the court that examination of the CCTV footage of the pub showed that Gill and his friend Shobit Thakur were drunk and dancing.

Thakur wanted to record Shaw with his mobile phone but the cricketer stopped him from taking the video. Police said that going through the footage, it does not appear that Shaw and others molested Gill in any way.

Police said they have recorded statements of witnesses present at the pub where the alleged incident took place and they said that no one touched Gill inappropriately. The police also checked the CCTV footage of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, which is in the vicinity, and it was observed that the social media influencer was following Shaw’s car with a baseball bat in his hand. The court was told that footage showed him smashing the windscreen of the cricketer’s car.

The report also states that the police have recorded the statements of CISF officers and they have also said that no such incident took place as claimed by Gill. According to a CISF official, they had received information about a clash in the area. When he reached the spot, he saw that the windshield of a car was broken. As per reports, the car driver said that an argument broke out inside the pub and the manager asked them to leave and wanted to file an FIR.

The officer noticed a woman holding a baseball bat in her hand. When his male friend saw the police coming on the spot, he snatched the bat from him and threw it aside. Quoting the CISF officer’s statement, the report said that no man was assaulting the woman at the spot.

Police said that investigation conducted as per Gill’s complaint revealed that the allegations against Prithvi Shaw and others are false/baseless. Gill, along with a few others, was arrested in February in connection with the alleged assault on Shaw after an argument over taking selfies at a suburban hotel.

After securing bail, Gill approached the airport police station with a complaint against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav and others for alleged molestation and outraging modesty. He later moved the court after the police did not register a case against the cricketer.
