Name: bloody daddy
Director: Ali Abbas Zafar
mould: Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty
Rating: 2.5 / 5
plot:
Narcotics officer Sumair (Shahid Kapoor) executes a drug deal, which results in drug lord Sikandar (Ronit Roy) taking back a bag full of cocaine he had seized in return for kidnapping his son. Left with no other option, Sumair agrees to retrieve the bag from the NCB headquarters and do business with his son Atharv, who is in Sikandar’s custody. Upon Sikandar entering the hotel where the exchange is planned to take place, he exposes the spies in his department and earns the suspicion of his colleagues.
what works:
The comic portions in Bloody Daddy, especially the scenes between Sikander (Ronit Roy) and Hameed (Sanjay Kapoor) work wonderfully. There are many laugh-out-loud moments in the first hour of the film but as the film starts getting serious in its second hour, it starts missing. Watch the scenes where Shahid’s character Sumair interacts with the staff at the hotel as they are hilarious. Action choreography is commendable. The action sequences throughout the film are brilliantly shot by Ali Abbas Zafar and have a solid choice of songs and background music which makes these sequences more immersive. The fight scene featuring Shahid Kapoor and Rajeev Khandelwal has been shot with utmost finesse. The unique approach towards the story is perhaps the biggest strength of the film. The fact that it doesn’t look regular is reason enough to give it a try this weekend.
What’s Not:
The screenplay of the film falls down a lot in the second hour. Movies like Bloody Daddy leave little room for error and, unfortunately for the film, it doesn’t stop as the story progresses. The father-son equation is not explored very well and this renders many of the actions taken by both the parties throughout the course of the film inappropriate. Cinematic liberties and plot appropriateness also drag the film down to a great extent. Lastly, the action, which is one of the biggest strengths of the film, becomes one of its weaknesses towards the end of the business as it just feels overdone.
Display:
Shahid Kapoor as Sumer does a great job as a narcotics officer with gray shades. He is excellent when it comes to action and excels in emotional and confrontational scenes as well. His comic punch hits the ground running and overall, he is just a very likeable actor who you just can’t get enough of onscreen.
Rajeev Khandelwal as Sameer is very convincing in his role of a Narcotics Officer. He also commands a great screen presence.
Diana Penty gives a vulnerable but effective performance.
Ronit Roy and Sanjay Kapoor as Sikandar and Hameed respectively have the most fun. He looks extremely dangerous throughout the film. He has a great comic punch and delivers it with ease. The scenes featuring him elevate the film.
Every other supporting actor makes a presence in the film.
final call:
Bloody Daddy is a completely new kind of film for the Indian cinema audience. The first hour of the film is fun and engaging, followed by the second hour which makes the film mediocre and strictly a one-time watch. You can now watch Bloody Daddy for free on Jio Cinema.
