Simon Hoadley, a 66-year-old retired financial advisor living in East Sussex, UK, has reportedly fallen victim to a “horrific” cryptocurrency scam that swindled him of around $100,000.
Fortunately, legal experts managed to recover almost all of the lost funds.

As informed of By Mirror, Hoadly was looking to earn some extra money during the COVID-19 pandemic as his father lay dying of cancer while his wife was living in a care home. At that point, a company claiming to consist of investment experts approached him and advised him to distribute his savings in digital currencies.
Hoadly agreed, and he was the first to see a return on his investment. However, the person he was in contact with stopped responding to him at one point, while his portfolio began to decline rapidly. Afterward, the man handed over $100,000 to the wrongdoers.
“It was horrifying. My father was dying of cancer, and I was living alone because my wife is in a care facility three hours away,” Hoadly said.
Once he realized he had been duped, he went to his local bank to find a way to get his money back. The financial institution urged him to tell everything to his family as the case could not have been solved without the efforts of the police.
“I have four grown children who were devastated when they found out. They always looked at me with respect, but in a year I completely changed. It was really hard for him to watch,” Hoadley said.
Unlike other previous scams that resulted in total loss to investors, the legal expert managed to return more than $95,000 to the man. Hoadly said he used the money to buy a mobile home where his wife lives.
