Speaking about Jimmy Fallon and him on The Howard Stern Show, Downey said, “We were both called in just as seat fillers and we looked at each other. Jack Black is getting his part, and Judd Law’s definitely getting my share. But all he needed was someone to read with the girls, and we’re sitting there saying, ‘This is going to happen for us.'”
The Iron Man actor was so confident that he would get the role that he started working on his English accent. He said, “I was like, ‘I’ve got to get a better English accent than Jude Law at this point. ‘”
The actor revealed what Kate Winslet told him. Robert shared, “And Winslet said, ‘That was the worst British accent I’ve ever heard.’ And I said, ‘I’ll check now, but I’m getting gummy bears from the minibar.’

Jimmy Fallon wanted the role of Jack Black in The Holiday
Fallon, on the other hand, was desperate for the role that eventually went to Jack Black. Jimmy Fallon told Stern, “I said, ‘If Jack Black says no to this movie, I’m in. I’ll do it for half the price. ‘”
Fallon described seeing Downey commit an act that left him stunned. He said, “Until now, without a doubt, I’m sitting in front of Robert Downey Jr., and I say, ‘This is the best actor I’ve ever sat with and done a scene with in my entire life. It was me. Mind boggling.”
The late night host joked, “And I left the business. I never went back. That was the last time I auditioned for a role.”
In the meantime, it looks like everything has gotten better for the two of them, with Fallon finally going to host The Tonight Show, and Downey becoming the star of the biggest superhero franchise the world has ever seen.
