New Delhi: Documents related to sale and purchase of properties, Rs 17.80 lakh in cash and some other material were seized after fresh raids this week against some “famous” builders, CAs and others linked to slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed. . (ED) said on Saturday.
The agency said in a statement that searches were conducted at 10 premises in Prayagraj, Lucknow and Delhi on June 14-15.
Various associates and associates of the late Ateeq Ahmed, including “renowned” builders and chartered accountants, were covered during the operation, which led to the seizure of Rs 17.80 lakh in cash, documents relating to the sale and purchase of properties, financial documents of companies, bank statements, mobile were confiscated. The money laundering case against Ahmed and his associates has emerged from a CBI FIR filed on the directions of the Supreme Court to probe allegations of kidnapping, extortion and assault against the mafia-turned-politician Ahmed and his men. Ateeq Ahmed was a history-sheeter and ran a mafia gang involved in various crimes of serious nature over a long period of time. “During investigation it was found that by indulging in criminal activities since 1989 and by usurping land properties of Government and others, Ateeq Ahmed amassed huge wealth in the name of himself and his family members and his associates and other benamidars ( having benami property in his name), the ED said.
The ED, which conducted raids in this case for the first time on April 12-13, seized Rs 84.68 lakh in cash, gold bars worth Rs 60 lakh, gold and diamond jewelery worth Rs 2.85 crore, digital devices and various physical documents and records They went. Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot at by three men posing as journalists on 15 April, when policemen were taking them for a check-up at a medical college in Prayagraj.
