Gurugram: Heavy rains led to severe waterlogging and traffic snarls in several parts of Gurugram on Sunday, with the administration advising corporate houses to work from home on Monday and schools to declare holiday. Heavy rains wreaked havoc as main roads, parks, underpasses, markets and even schools and hospitals were inundated.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav urged the residents to stay indoors and step out only for essential work. He also said that corporate offices have been asked to advise their employees to work from home on Monday so that the water accumulated on the roads can be cleared as soon as the rain stops.
A message from the principal of DAV Public School said, “Due to incessant rains, the roads have been waterlogged and movement has become extremely difficult. Therefore, the school will be closed tomorrow (July 10) for the safety of the students as per the orders of the district authorities.” Will be closed.” , Sector 14.
According to officials, it rained in Gurugram overnight on Saturday and continued till morning. The city received 150 mm of rain till noon.
Pictures and videos of commuters wading through knee-deep water flooded social media platforms, raising concerns about the efficiency of the city’s drainage infrastructure.
The advisory issued by the traffic police department said, “Due to incessant rains, there is water-logging and traffic is moving at a slow pace. Therefore, we request all of you to leave your homes only for essential work. In case of inconvenience, Sorry for that.” Said.
Severe water-logging has been reported in other areas including Himgiri Chowk, Aggarwal Dharamshala Chowk, Sheetla Mata Mandir Road, Kanhai Chowk, Rajeev Chowk, MG Road and Sohna Road, he said.
Other areas like Udyog Vihar, Rosewood City, Malibu Town, Sectors 14, 17 and 31 were inundated for several hours, he said.
Commuters traveling on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway faced problems as the main road and service lanes near Narsinghpur were inundated.
Traffic jams were also reported on several roads in the city. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Virendra Vij said vehicular movement was slow on internal roads and expressways but there was no heavy rush. Policemen are managing the traffic, he said.
Yadav said several teams of civic agencies were clearing waterlogged roads using pumps. Meanwhile, Gurugram residents criticized the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for not cleaning the drains in time.
Several people shared pictures and videos of waterlogged roads on social media sites and expressed their dismay over the situation.
Former councilor Rama Rani Rathi said, “The monsoon season has started but most of the drains have not been cleaned yet. Waterlogging is an annual affair here and the authorities claim to make arrangements but fail to implement them “
