India vs Pakistan: Hotel rent in Ahmedabad hiked tenfold from Rs 1 lakh per day for World Cup tie

The upcoming India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup match on October 15 has set hotel tariffs on fire in the city. There are reports of luxury accommodation in Ahmedabad costing up to Rs 1 lakh even for a day’s stay.

The fare during the high octane World Cup clash will attract a large number of Indian fans from across the country and the world. They wouldn’t want to miss out on Men In Blue Bleeding even at the cost of shelling out a lot of money on their stay. It is part of the dramatic Dus Guna Dhanda.

The skyrocketing prices on online hotel booking platforms can give anyone a heart attack. Here are some snapshots from a booking portal that could reach over a lakh as the day draws near. Even the serviced apartments in the vicinity are charging almost the same price. However when you compare it to 5 star accommodation for one night it seems like a better deal.

Speaking to PTI news agency, officials of the state’s Hotel and Rental Association said the hike in prices is a result of bookings made by NRIs. Hoteliers are bound to milk some revenue. He is sure that the rooms will be filled to capacity despite the rising rents. However, the prices will return to normal once the World Cup frenzy ends. However, officials said there is no dearth of budget hotels in the city.
