If everything goes according to plan, India will launch the “Chandrayaan 3” mission next month. However, landing men on the Moon is essential for greater space dominance, and India has long aspired to accomplish that.
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief S. Somnath said that India’s ambitious manned mission Gaganyaan will be launched only when its success is guaranteed. At the India Today Conclave, Somnath said, “We must reach that stage.”
“We know our rockets are flying safely. In space, there are a lot of potential accidents, so we’ll need to rescue the crew. We’re trying to develop a crew escape system, Which is the initial objective, he continued.
ISRO has selected four pilots from the Indian Air Force for the country’s first manned space mission. Four pilots have enrolled as astronaut candidates and are undergoing research and simulations.

ISRO must conduct unmanned robotic flights to demonstrate the full functionality of the design, communications, networks and sub-systems, and to ensure their safe return.
“I’m not announcing a final manned mission launch date right now.”
The ISRO CEO also said that if we try and succeed in entering orbit, if we fail, we will need to rescue the crew.
