Reacting to the development, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi: “Kuch log chale gaye 2000 ke note liye (Some people left us like Rs 2000 notes)”.
Yadav’s tweet referred to the central government’s decision to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes from circulation in May. The Rs 2,000 note introduced in 2016 after demonetisation will continue to be legal tender but citizens have been asked to deposit or exchange these notes by September 30, 2023.
