The latest software update for the Oculus Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro is here, and it’s bringing some serious performance upgrades to both of Meta’s VR headsets.
Meta teased this update following the announcement of Meta Quest 3, where a press release revealed that Quest Pro and Quest 2 would each have CPU speed increases of up to 26%. Furthermore, according to Meta, Quest 2’s GPU will be up to 19% better, while Quest Pro’s GPU will be up to 11% better.
These hardware upgrades can be achieved through software updates as the new update to the Meta is allowing the CPU and GPU in each headset to run at higher clock speeds. Previously both headsets ran on underclocked systems – read: maximum performance being curtailed – in order to prevent the headset from getting too hot and causing discomfort for the player. Clearly, Meta decided it was a bit too conservative with its underclocked approach, so it’s now releasing a bit more power.
In addition to its faster processing, Meta has announced that the Quest Pro is getting a boost to its eye-tracking accuracy. Although the updated post doesn’t go into more details, we can’t help but think that this is Meta’s first step in helping the Quest Pro catch up to Apple’s newly unveiled Vision Pro headset – which at the top Threatens to usurp Meta’s location. Best vr headset list.
One innovation of Apple’s headset is that it uses eye-tracking to make hand-tracking navigation more accurate. Instead of awkwardly pointing at an app, all you have to do is look at it and then press your fingers.
The Quest Pro’s improved eye-tracking accuracy could allow Meta to implement a system similar to the Apple Vision Pro — and help make its eye-tracking technology more useful.
more minor changes
In addition to these performance improvements, the Meta Quest v55 update brings some minor software improvements.
Now when using Direct Touch hand tracking, you’ll be able to swipe notifications away or tap on them like buttons as you can with other menu items. People who use VR.
