Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has filed paperwork for the Republican presidential nomination.

The 45-year-old Cuban-American has achieved national prominence by helping transform his city into a magnet for technology and finance conglomerates, leaving high-tax San Francisco and New York.

The son of a two-time Miami mayor, Suarez has won two races for the nonpartisan position.

However, despite his popularity in South Florida, he enters an increasingly crowded field that already includes a prominent Florida Republican, Governor Ron DeSantis.

Nevertheless, Suárez is widely regarded as a charismatic campaigner and has built a more tolerant and pro-business reputation than DeSantis.
