Colombo Strikers are set to field a formidable squad for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) auction to be held in Colombo on Wednesday. The Strikers have already brought together Pakistan captain Babar Azam, highly talented Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah and Sri Lankan T20 stars Mathisha Pathirana and Chamka Karunaratne for LPL 2023.
Speaking ahead of the LPL auction, Pakistan superstar Babar Azam expressed, “Auction is the most important aspect in any franchise cricket tournament. We’ve talked about the kind of players we need and we’ll definitely look to build the strongest side we can into the tournament.”
Meanwhile, Colombo Strikers head coach Simon Helmott said, “T20 cricket has shifted and evolved over the years. We will be looking for some destructive batsmen and wicket-taking bowlers. We want to play an attacking brand of cricket and we need to bring our It will require the right set of players to execute the plans.”
Bowling coach Chaminda Vaas talked about the team’s strategy to get a good bowling unit, “We have seen over the years that local players make a big difference in franchise cricket. We have shortlisted a few names that we would like to get in the auction. It is about building a well-balanced bowling unit and hopefully we will be able to do that in the auction.”
