The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced the appointment of the new chairman of the men’s senior team selection committee, replacing Chetan Sharma with former India pacer Ajit Agarkar. The post was lying vacant for over six months after the resignation of Chetan Sharma following the sting operation of Zee News channel.
Agarkar, who was the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) till the IPL 2023 season, resigned from the position to clear any conflict of interest. He will be the fifth member in the selection panel which includes Shiv Sunder Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath. The first agenda in his place will be Team India squad selection for the five T20 matches against the West Indies starting on August 3.

Ajit Agarkar married a Muslim girl Fatima Ghadiyali in 2002. He met Fatima’s brother Mazhar Ghadiali, who was a cricketer in the Mumbai domestic circuit.
Agarkar married Fathima in a private ceremony in 2002 without her parents’ approval. Only close friends were invited to their wedding but the former India fast bowler hosted a reception on 9 February 2002, where most of the cricketers from Team India were also invited.
