Woman power: In 2016, Naujeesha, a housewife from Kozhikode, was going through a terrible marriage and was contemplating suicide. But today, this 32-year-old woman has inspired many women as she bravely overcame her challenges and fulfilled her aspirations. Before getting married in 2013, Naujeesha did her MCA in Computer Applications and worked as a guest lecturer. From there, her life took a turn for the worst when her husband interfered with all her goals and belittled her achievements. Domestic abuse developed from these behaviors over the course of more than a year. The mother of a six-year-old attempted suicide before deciding to leave her unhappy marriage. She started preparing for competitive exams, put in a lot of effort, and succeeded when she was appointed as a Civilian Police Officer (WCPO). On April 15, 2021, he started working there. According to Naujisha, her parents and son always supported her and were with her. She advises all women to “don’t suffer silently and get out of it to chase your dreams.”
Naujeesha: Survivor rather than victim
When the attacks on her husband’s house were too much for her, Naujeesha decided to end her life at once. But just before he dives into a well, he decides to live rather than suffer. On the morning of May 22, 2016, Naujisha and her baby returned to their Perambra home. Both his mother Fathima and father Abdullah, who have a small shop in Panthiraikkara, welcomed Naujisha and her son. When Naujeesha took oath as a member of the Kerala Police at the Kerala Police Academy after six years, bowing to the Chief Minister, her parents and son were also present to witness the event with teary eyes. One of the 446 women police officers to join the Kerala Police was 32-year-old Naujisha, who earned her MCA.
Naujisha: Struggle and Support System
After leaving her husband’s home in Perambra, she started teaching in a parallel college nearby and also started PSC coaching. However, the divorce process and the anguish it caused had an effect on her academics. As a result he decided to stop teaching and focused solely on his studies. Helping Naujisha during this time was her sister Nouf, who was a lab assistant in a higher secondary school.
She stood first in the list of Police Special Recruitment candidates in Thrissur district and eighth in Ernakulam district. She secured 141st rank in the women police, and she also performed well in the excise examination. According to Naujeesha, the next target would be to get a higher position with the police. She worked as a visiting professor in a college before getting married. But once she got married, her husband’s family forbade her to look for work. Her parents became her biggest source of support when she decided to confront the boy who was pressurizing her for dowry.
