Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning As Part 1 hit the theaters to much fanfare, it’s reportedly the last time the actor will be playing the iconic role of super spy, Ethan Hunt. Cruise first took on the role in 1996, making Mission Impossible one of Hollywood’s most successful franchises. So it was only fitting that the actors were very concerned about how to end Part 1 of the two parter.
Tom Cruise worried about the ending of Mission Impossible 7 Part One
Since 2018, fans have been eagerly waiting for the conclusion of this franchise. Now, after five years, they are finally seeing Cruise’s character on the big screen putting the audience on a roller-coaster of a story.
Although ‘Dead Reckoning’ is the first part of a two-part finale, with the second installment set to release in 2024, fans were expecting a harrowing ending. However, Cruise made sure they didn’t let them down by providing a satisfying conclusion to the first part, and saved them from having to wait a whole year for closure.
In a recent interview with Total Film, M:I7 director Christopher McQuarrie revealed, “We always ended the film where we were going to end it. How we ended the film was up to us.” It was a big, big secret.” This kept Tom awake at night during the entire construction. He would come all the time and say, ‘It can’t be a cliffhanger, it has to be satisfying.’ The audience has to feel a sense of completion.”

He continued, “Tom kept looking at that scene and worried about whether or not it would have a satisfying conclusion or whether it would feel open-ended. We constantly rewatched it, constantly refined it.”
According to Quarry, the decision not to end the film on a cliffhanger was deliberate. He expressed that ending on a cliffhanger might create an expectation for viewers to return, which they did not want. Quarry clarified that he intended for audiences to walk out of theaters with excitement, thinking, “Oh, I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Everything we know about Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning 2
Originally, the producers had planned to film both Part 1 and Part 2 back-to-back, similar to the initial intentions for John Wick: Chapter 4 and the fifth installment. However, this was not possible due to the pandemic.
At the premiere of the first part, Quarry told Collider, “We shot on all but one of our international locations. We shot our big action except for the biggest set piece, the central set piece of the film.” which is huge and unlike anything we’ve done, and, I think, unlike anything you’ve seen.”
The last part of M:I will come in 2024, although the exact release date has not been revealed yet. Everyone from Part 1 will reprise their roles in Part 2, in addition to Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust and Cary Elwes as Denlinger.
