During this conversation, Siraj also revealed that Mukesh kept attending team meetings despite not knowing whether he would get the Test cap or not. The Bengal pacer said he always wanted to follow process and be prepared at all times.
Mukesh further said, “I want to be ready all the time, whether I play or not. I want to attend meetings, be a part of the process and always follow the process. Somewhere, I feel I can play this match.”
Siraj then said that Mukesh’s story is inspirational and it gives him goosebumps as it is not easy to play Test cricket for India after all the struggles of the players in Ranji Trophy.
“When I made my debut, I spoke to my mother. I told her that I am playing for my country now and she was happy, my friends, all the people who supported me, they were all very happy,” said Mukesh.
Talking about his maiden wicket, Mukesh said that he was willing to be patient and stick to his methods and keep asking questions as the pitch was not conducive for fast bowlers.
“When you and JD (Unadkat) were bowling, I was waiting to take the ball in my hands. Rohit had already told me that it was not a pitch where wickets would come easily. I stuck to my plans and was ready to work hard. When I got the wicket, Virat and Rohit Bahiya hugged me, it was unreal. I saw them on TV and now they are coming and hugging me. The feeling was amazing,” signed off Mukesh. .
