NFT collectors: NFT nostalgia of Snoop, The Goose attracts Gen Y to Sotheby’s

Snoop Dogg’s latest Announcement Did snoop passport – An emerging concert collectible – I believe is a trend that we will see gaining more and more traction among musicians and entertainers alike.

They use fan moments we’ve all been through: whether it’s dusting off an old concert T-shirt, rustling up a shoe box full of stubs of tickets to sporting events and concerts you’ve attended. Or put a poster of your favorite musician/band on your bedroom walls as a kid.

All of these examples generate feelings of nostalgia; They take you back to a moment in time and act like a timestamp of your life. But they get fragile over time, and at least half of my favorite ticket stubs are stained with smudged ink.

So storing nostalgia on the blockchain in durable digital goods is the base case for why we’re likely to see more artists following Snoop’s lead. But there are plenty of other reasons for artists and fans to get on board.

What’s in it for the musician?

– Ability to token gate exclusive and dynamic content for fans.

– Open a new line of digital merchandise (along with physical merchandise).

Deeper engagement between artists and fans with new experiences and access.

– Collaboration with web3 and digital artists (hip hop has been known for its collaborations for decades, so this natural extension in the web3 context makes sense).

– Reward fan loyalty and provide the holder with the ability to add additional utility.

New source of revenue from Foundry. Snoop opted for $42 (approx) or 0.025 ETH, which you can pay for via credit card or crypto.

Royalties on secondary sales.

What’s in it for the fans?

– Relive nostalgia through collectibles on the blockchain.

– Exclusive access to dynamic content and behind the scenes.

– Exposure to artists and collaborations (i.e., Terrell Jones and Coldy).

– Access to drops, events and experiences.

– New era of displaying fandom (many people collect vinyl when they don’t even have a record player)

– Integration with social media, a continuation of social signaling in our digital lives.

– Ability to trade it on secondary NFT markets.

What is popular in the NFT art markets?

This iconic piece sold for $6,215,1000 at Sotheby’s as part of its recent Grails II event (an auction of NFT art seized from bankrupt crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital). punk6529, The sale price at the auction was estimated to be between $2 million and $3 million.

Originally minted in February 2021 for 0.1 ETH (equivalent to $131 on sale date), The Goose continues to soar into price appreciation stratosphere.

The history of the piece covers TheCryptonite to its sale pixelpete for 1.26 WETH ($2,220) on Feb 4th 2021; Transferred from Pixelpet to 3AC for 1,800 ETH ($5,896,566) on Aug 27, 2021; and a new owner in punk6529 via a Sotheby’s auction for 3,237 ETH ($5.4 million) following the expiration of 3AC, plus a buyer’s premium of over $800,000.

after successful Grails II With 37 lots in the auction, Cointelegraph sat down with Michael Bohanna, vice president and head of digital and NFTs at Sotheby’s, to discuss the important auction and why the brand leans heavily toward art on the blockchain.

“Grails II exceeded our expectations in every respect. The $11 million total from 37 lots is more than double the high estimate, which was $4.8 million. Every single lot sold for more than the high estimate, and that data is very impressive,” says Bohanna.

“There was tremendous excitement before the auction. Throughout the sale we received over 1,000 bids, and artists like Beeple and other members of the community took to Twitter to express their excitement about The Goose’s sale. It was a very important movement, and I think it speaks to not only the importance of The Goose’s work, but also its importance to collecting and to the market.

Sotheby’s was founded in 1744, but started its foray into NFTs only in early 2021. Bohanna believes the move is helping to usher in a new generation of collectors.

“Beginning in early 2021, we are committed to digital art and NFTs as a key part of our overall fine arts strategy. We really see digital art and NFTs as a natural evolution for us,” he said.

He points out that 61% of the buyers at the Grails II auction were new to Sotheby’s, and most were under 40, much younger than the average age of its typical customers.

“With so many new collectors coming in through our digital art sales, I think it’s definitely opening up the world to many people who would otherwise have felt intimidated by participating in a Sotheby’s sale.”

Sotheby’s is getting good at drawing attention to the NFT and crypto sector through high-tension live streams. In November 2021, it hosted the sale of the first edition of the US Constitution, with the Constitution DAO making international headlines with its failed attempt to secure the highly sought-after artifact.

“When Constitution DAO attempted to buy the first printing, it really showed how excited the community was about the live auction. Even today it remains one of the most watched films live stream of all time. It also shows that the crypto community, NFT and digital art community are excited about how auctions are going and how new they are to many in this community,” says Bohanna.

Sotheby’s applies a traditional buyer’s premium revenue model to its digital art auctions, similar to its physical art auctions. But Bohanna says the Sotheby’s brand also helps artists attract premium prices.

“We play the same role in bringing our carefully curated selections of art to market for sale,” he explains. “On Twitter, there was a vote The question was asked after the auction whether The Goose would have fetched the same price if sold elsewhere. A significant percentage of respondents agreed that it would never have fetched the same amount if it had been auctioned on OpenSea or any other on-chain NFT marketplace.

On June 28, Sotheby’s announced its new Generative Art program, which will be powered by the ArtBlox engine.

The event will be titled and launched with generic and computer arts pioneer Vera molnar,

Unprecedented on-chain generative art project by 99-year-old Hungarian artist titled “Themes and Variations,” will contain 500 unique artifacts.

For the first time in Sotheby’s history, they will be sold at a Dutch auction.
