nimona ending explained
Spoiler alert, you have been warned. While the title character of Nimona is a shapeshifter who likes to break the rules, Ballister is a skilled and talented knight who has been framed for the murder of the queen and is on the run. The end of the animated film shows Nimona sacrificing herself to save Ballister and the kingdom from the vengeance of the real culprit, aka the Director. Over the years she has turned into a fanatic and refuses to allow any change because of her conservative thinking, prompting Ballister to show that a common man cannot be trusted by the royals .
The biggest reveal of the film is that Nimona is notoriously dark. She is the creature Glorath battled 1,000 years ago and was Glorath’s friend before their bond was severed. Even though Ballister confronts Nimona about this, she refuses to kill him like Ambrosius. Ballister is angry with her for not telling the truth and calls Nimona a monster. Shocked, she transforms into a shadow creature and attacks the kingdom in fury and rage.
She is stopped by Ballister, who finally accepts her in all her forms and tells her how much he cares for her. Ultimately satisfied with the acceptance, Nimona decides to sacrifice herself to save the kingdom from the Director, whose vengeance will destroy her with his own agenda. Although Nimona is presumed dead and declared a hero by the state for her sacrifice, she makes a comeback at the end of the film. Even though her face is not shown in the frame, Nimona’s voice can be heard as she reveals herself to Ballister.
