‘Nobody came to me’: WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh on reports of Delhi Police visiting his residence

New Delhi: Amid reports of Delhi Police accompanying Indian wrestler Sangeeta Phogat to Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s residence for investigation on Friday, the latter said no one came to her. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, while leaving his residence on Friday, said, “I was sleeping in my room. No one came to my place.” Olympians Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat along with other wrestlers have been protesting in the national capital since the beginning of this year to press for the removal and arrest of the WFI chief over sexual harassment allegations.

On 28 May, despite Section 144 being imposed in the area, the wrestlers planned a march and protest in front of the new parliament. He was detained by the Delhi Police on the way and an FIR was registered against him under sections 147, 149, 186, 188, 332, 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), section 3 of the PDPP Act. The Delhi Police has also evacuated the picket site.

Two days after being removed from Jantar Mantar, the wrestlers reached Haridwar to immerse their medals in the Ganges. After a meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia on Wednesday said the government has assured that the ongoing investigation by the Delhi Police against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will be completed before June 15. Will be completed.

Speaking to reporters at his residence after interacting with top wrestlers, Thakur said, “An internal complaints committee of the wrestling federation will be constituted. It will be headed by a woman. We have demanded that all complaints filed against wrestlers The FIR should be withdrawn.” He also requested that Brij Bhushan Singh, who has completed 3 terms (as WFI chief), and his associates be asked not to stand for re-election. The wrestlers promised that they would not hold any new protest before June 15.”
