E-reader brand Onyx is back with an unusual mobile device – an e-reader the size of an average smartphone.
it is called Bux Palma And its screen measures just 6.13 inches (about 156mm), making it a bit bigger than Samsung Galaxy S23, Onyx has dabbled with compact tablets before Boox Poke5, However, this time the company opted for a tall screen instead of a sturdy one. The display features an E-Ink Carta 1200 display, which is a popular option found on other e-readers. And for good reason as the Carta 1200 allows for clear, high-definition visuals. This can be seen in the display’s resolution of 824 x 1648 pixels. To ensure optimum performance, Onyx is also using its proprietary Boox Super Refresh Technology for smooth scrolling.
Features and Specifications
The Palma blurs the line between mobile devices and e-readers thanks to its smartphone-esque design. The power and volume buttons are on the right, while on the left, you have a microSD card slot along with an additional button that you can use for hotkey functions. There’s also a camera at the back, but don’t expect it to be on the same level as the iPhone 14. The lens is only 16MP. Also, all photos are in grayscale. There is no color support of Boox Tab Ultra C in it.
In regards to software, Onyx makes some interesting choices. Like other devices in its category, the Palma lets you read content from subscribed RSS feeds or use the Calendar app to double as a clock. It also provides access to various social media platforms so that you can post, send messages and even make voice calls like you would on a regular phone. Undoubtedly, without color everything looks dull.
Under the hood is an eight-core CPU from Qualcomm. The official product listing doesn’t reveal what it actually is. There is only one model for the Palma which has 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. And powering everything is a 3,950mAh battery. 9To5Google has estimated this in its report The Palma should last for about a week before needing a recharge.
availability
Despite all the similarities to a smartphone, it isn’t one. Onyx made sure to clarify this by saying in the FAQ section that the Palma does not support SIM cards nor does it have any SIM cards é SIM chip inside.
Despite its capabilities as a mobile device, we can see this gadget becoming quite popular among those looking for a slim e-reader that they can easily carry in their pocket or purse. You don’t need to lift anything heavy just to read an eBook.
The evidence of the gadget’s popularity is already evident. At the time of this writing, the Early Adopter version of the e-reader is SOLD OUT ON BOOX WEBSITE There is no information on when it will return. 9To5Google says pre-orders launched at $250, but the final price could rise to $280. We asked the company when Palma would be back. This story will be updated later.
