More than 600 people were arrested overnight in France after a third night of riots sparked by the shooting of a teenager by police in a Paris suburb earlier this week.
Officials said President Emmanuel Macron was due to hold a second crisis meeting on Friday to deal with the growing protests.
Unrest has spread across the country, with reports of people setting fires and burning cars and buses in Marseille, protesters clashing with police near Lille in the north of the country and a Nike store in central Paris being looted.
About 40,000 police have been deployed across the country to quell the violence, officials said. French media reported that heavily armored military-style police vehicles and special units that typically deal with counter-terrorism were deployed in some areas, including Lyon.
