New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying he has a habit of criticizing the country and commenting on domestic politics when he is out of the country and it is in national interest to take national politics out of the country. Addressing a press conference on the Narendra Modi government’s nine years of foreign policy, Jaishankar refuted Gandhi’s allegation of weakening of democratic institutions in the country. He also expressed confidence that the BJP would win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Whenever Rahul Gandhi goes out of the country, he criticizes the country and comments on our politics. The world is watching us and what are they watching? Elections happen, sometimes one party wins and sometimes the other party wins. If there is no democracy in the country, then such a change should not happen. The results of all elections should be equal…,” Jaishankar said.
The minister said that Rahul Gandhi is hopeful that external support will work in India.
“If you see, all these narratives (against the government) are created in India. If this narrative does not work in India or gets less attention in the country, then this narrative is taken outside. They hope That outside support will work in India.” India,” Jaishankar said.
“We have democracy in the country, I will have some, you will have some. You will have some politics while we will have some politics. I don’t mind whatever he does inside the country, but I don’t mind national Don’t think about taking up politics.” Going out of the country is in the national interest. I don’t think it will enhance his credibility.”
Addressing the Indian diaspora during his visit to the US earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi alleged that it was an attack on the country’s democratic structure.
“It is your responsibility and our responsibility to protect our institutions, our judiciary, our media on a large scale and to protect the idea of India,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that BJP and RSS leaders do not talk about the future and “talk about the past and will always blame someone else for the past”.
During his visit to South Africa earlier this month, Jaishankar took a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the US that he avoids involvement in politics when he goes abroad and would debate “vigorously” when he returns to India .
He had interacted with the diaspora during his visit to the Cape, saying, “I may differ strongly with someone but how do I deal with it… I want to go back home and do this. The city to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
