Houston rapper Big Pokey has died at the age of 45 after collapsing on stage.
Big Pokey or Milton Powell was a founding member of the Screwed Up Click Collective. He made his debut in 1999 with Hardest Pit in the Litter. He recently released his album Sensei in 2021 and made an appearance on Megan Thee Stallion’s 2022 track Southside Royalty Freestyle. During his career, Big Pokey dropped six studio albums.

Big Pokey passed away at the age of 45
Big Pokey collapses during his performance in Beaumont, Texas, on Saturday. A video viral on social media shows Pokey taking a microphone in front of the crowd and taking a breath before falling backwards. According to local news stations, he was immediately taken to the hospital, where he passed away. The cause of the rapper’s death was not immediately known.
A statement was shared on Big Pokey’s official Instagram, which read, “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell. Big Pokey June 18, 2023 passed away. He was greatly loved by his family, his friends and his loyal fans. In the coming days we will release information about the celebration of his life and how the public can show their respect. We ask that Please respect his family and their privacy during this difficult time. Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit in the Litter’.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted Sunday, “The City of Houston and I extend our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of our very own Screwed Up Click legendary rapper #BigPokey. Although many called him ‘low key,’ the national His presence was larger than life in helping catapult our hip hop scene to the next level. We are grateful.”
