Moderators of several Reddit communities are vowing to keep their subreddits private or restricted indefinitely. For the vast majority of subreddits, the blackout was expected to last from Monday to Wednesday to protest Reddit’s costly API pricing changes. But in response to Tuesday’s post on the r/ModCoord subreddit, users are chiming in to say that their subreddits will remain dark after that 48-hour window.
“Reddit has subtly emerged,” u/SpicyThunder335, moderator for r/ModCoord, wrote in the post, He says that despite the announcement that access to a popular data-collection tool will be restored for moderators, “our main concerns Even then are not Satisfied, and these concessions came before the blackout start date; Reddit has been silent since it started. spicethunder335 also bolded a line from the Monday memo he received from CEO Steve Huffman ledge – “Like all blowups on Reddit, this too shall pass” – and added that “Reddit needs more to function.”

Spicethunder335 said that prior to Tuesday’s post, more than 300 subreddits had committed to remain dark indefinitely. The list included some very popular subreddits, such as r/oh (over 34 million customers), r/music (over 32 million customers), and r/video (over 26 million customers). even r/nba committed to one indefinite deadline But Arguably the most important time of the NBA season, But spicethunder335 invited moderators to share pledges to keep the protest going, and the pledges are rolling in.
Spicethunder335 notes that not everyone will be able to go dark indefinitely for valid reasons. “For example, r/stopdrinking represents a valuable resource for communities in need, and has an urgency to get news out of an ongoing war r/ukraine clearly outweighs any of these concerns,” spicethunder335 wrote. As an alternative, spicethunder335 recommended implementing a weekly gesture of support on “Touch-the-Grass-Tuesdays”, which can be called separately. Will be left to the discretion of the communities. SpicyThunder335 also acknowledged that some subreddits will need to survey their users to make sure they are on board.
