Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in the final. It was a closely fought match and the Spaniard showed indomitable spirit to come back from a set down.
At only 20 years old, Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to win both the US Open and Wimbledon. He dominated on his first serve and it was one of the major talking points of the game. The match itself was a generational battle, as Alcaraz became the third youngest male player to win at Wimbledon. The feat follows tennis legends Boris Becker (17 years in 1985) and Björn Borg (20 years in 1976).
In addition, Carlos Alcaraz also achieved a rare feat by becoming the first player to defeat Novak Djokovic on the Wimbledon Center Court in over a decade. The Serbian’s last loss came in 2013 against Andy Murray.
Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon victory was the first time since 2002 that a player other than Roger Federer, Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray had won the title. The feat cemented Alcaraz’s position as the world’s No. 1 player – an extraordinary feat for a player who has only participated in 10 Grand Slams. He has won 2 Grand Slams so far.
