Samsung Display said on Tuesday that it has developed a new display that can be vertically rolled and unrolled like a scroll.
The rollable Flex is 49 mm in length, but can be rolled and unrolled vertically to expand to 254.4 mm using an O-shaped axis, the display panel maker said.
Samsung Display added that, while the Extended Display can be used as a monitor, it can function as a portable screen device such as a tablet or laptop.
The rollable flex is one of several that the company plans to showcase at SID Display Week 2023, the annual display industry convention to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 23 to 25.
Another new display sensor aimed at portable devices is called OLED display which can recognize fingerprints anywhere on the screen. This is different from currently commercialized displays that have fingerprint sensors mounted as modules under the panel in specific areas.

Samsung Display said that when the display is made to cover the entire screen, it instead has light sensing sensors.
The company claimed that these sensors read OLED light reflected from the contraction and relaxation of blood vessels inside the fingers of both hands when touched and convert them into health information that covers heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels.
Meanwhile, at the conference, Samsung Display will also showcase previously announced innovative displays, such as the Flex Hybrid, which can be both folded and slid. Another display will be Flex In & Out, which can be bent both inwards and outwards by 360 degrees.
Samsung Display will also showcase its latest 77-inch model QD-OLED display aimed at high-end TVs that boasts of 2,000nits of brightness.
